Latest report shows major southern Alberta crops are 79% harvested

Last weekend’s heavy snowfall brought harvest in southern Alberta to an abrupt halt.
However, the Alberta Crop Report for October 1st shows major crops in the region were already 79% harvested.
That’s only about four-points back of the five year average.
It’s also well ahead of where farmers were at this time last year when 69% of major crops were combined.
The report also indicates the recent wet snow is a welcome sight in terms of replenishing soil moisture reserves.
As for the rest of the province, harvest progress is well behind the five year average with percentages combined ranging from 16% in the Peace Region, 18% around Edmonton and 24% in Central Alberta.
