A busy day Thursday for the local foodgrains project.

About 20 combines spending about two hours to harvest a quarter-section of barley just northeast of Lethbridge.

The crop is then sold to local livestock producers and grain brokers and the profits sent to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to be used in global needs.

In the past twelve years, the local project has raised almost $1.5 million dollars.

With four-to-one matching funds from the federal government, the amount generated locally equates to over seven-million dollars for those in need around the world.

Harvest was supposed to take place last Thursday, but had to be postponed because of rain.
